Couples Counseling
Every relationship experiences seasons of stress, disconnection, and conflict. Seeking support doesn't mean your relationship is failing—it means you're investing in its future. My work with couples is grounded in the Gottman Method, one of the most well-researched and evidence-based approaches to relationship therapy. Developed from decades of research on thousands of couples, the Gottman Method identifies the habits and interaction patterns that strengthen relationships—as well as those that contribute to distance, resentment, and conflict.
Together, we'll gain a clearer understanding of your relationship's unique strengths and challenges while learning practical strategies to improve communication and manage conflict more effectively. The goal is to deepen friendship and intimacy, strengthen trust, and create a stronger foundation for your relationship. Rather than assigning blame, we'll focus on understanding the patterns that keep you feeling stuck and developing new ways of turning toward one another with curiosity, empathy, and respect.
These tools provide an important foundation for healthier relationships. But in my experience, lasting change requires more than learning better communication skills. That's why I also integrate Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) into our work. EFT helps couples understand the deeper emotional experiences driving conflict. Often, recurring arguments aren't really about dishes, parenting, intimacy, or finances — they're about feeling unheard, alone, criticized, rejected, or uncertain whether your partner will be there when you need them. These underlying emotions can create predictable cycles of pursuing, withdrawing, criticizing, or becoming defensive that leave both partners feeling disconnected.
Rather than seeing one another as the problem, we'll learn to recognize the cycle as the problem. Together, we'll slow those interactions down, uncover the emotions and needs beneath them, and create new experiences of responsiveness, safety, and connection.
The goal isn't simply to communicate better. It's to build a relationship where both partners feel understood, valued, emotionally secure, and able to turn toward one another — even during life's most difficult moments.
